Brain tumors aren’t ever easy to discuss or manage. Collaborating with oncologists to deliver exceptional tumor treatment.
Many people with brain tumors are referred to us by an oncologist. At Neurosurgery & Spine Consultants, we’re dedicated to working with other physicians in order to provide you the best possible care. Together, we’ll fight to beat your cancer.
Identifying the details about your tumor is the first step toward beating it. Here are some of the possible types of tumors we can treat:
Primary Tumors
Primary tumors form in the brain without spread (metastasis) from cancer in another part of your body. The type of primary tumor you have will help us determine the best treatment, which can include any combination of GammaKnife®/CyberKnife® radiosurgery, open surgery and chemotherapy. Some different types of primary tumors include:
- Astrocytomas
- Meningiomas
- Pituitary tumors
- Skull-base tumors
Metastatic Tumors
These tumors are usually more complicated than primary tumors. In addition to the brain, metastatic cancer is also present in one or more other areas of the body. In metastatic cases, we will always play an assisting role to your oncologist, who will quarterback your overall cancer care strategy. If your oncologist determines that surgical or radiosurgical care will help, we’ll put all of our energy and neurosurgical capabilities toward ridding your brain of cancer.
Tumor surgery is a delicate process that can help you make significant gains against cancer. And our surgeons possess the precision and experience you need to win your battle.
If we’re to operate on any tumor, it’ll typically be with some sort of craniotomy procedure. In these procedures, we remove a portion of the skull to access the brain directly. However, for certain tumors, we can actually access the brain through the nose or by using an endoscope through a one-inch incision in the skull. These minimally invasive procedures are not only effective, but they generally involve shorter recovery times, less discomfort and little to no visual scarring.
